Marketing, Management & Finance FULL-TIME AND ADJUNCT FACULTY
Dr. Susan Baxter
Dr. Baxter’s areas of research and scholarship include globalizing business education, diversity in advertising, consumer-brand relationships, distance learning, student learning styles and the effect on performance in distance learning, and the impact of HIV on the global workforce.
She has authored several works dealing with communication and marketing for special populations, including LGBT consumers. She has been quoted by the Associated Press and is a member of the American Marketing Association, the Society for Marketing Advances, the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Marketing Educators Association.
In addition to her duties as department chair, Dr. Baxter teaches undergraduate courses in Integrated Marketing Communications, Organizational Behavior, Global Management, and Global Markets, as well as graduate-level courses.
The recipient of a Doctorate of Business Administration in Marketing from Argosy University-Sarasota, Dr. Baxter also holds a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Healthcare Management from the University of Phoenix, a Master of Science degree in Psychology from St. Cloud State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the College of St. Benedict.
Dr. Nicole Kirpalani
Associate Chair, Associate Professor
Dr. Nicole Kirpalani teaches a variety of marketing courses, including Consumer Behavior, Services Marketing, Global Markets, Cause Marketing, and Tourism & Hospitality Marketing.
Her academic interests focus on consumer relationships with fashion brands, consumer privacy, and sustainability in the context of fashion. In addition, she is engaged in research related to pedagogy and online learning.
She has published papers in Psychology & Marketing, Marketing Education Review, and the Journal of Marketing Management, and serves as an editorial advisory board member for Young Consumers and as an editorial review board member for Marketing Education Review. She also serves as a discipline reviewer for the Fulbright Scholar Program Peer Review Committee.
Dr. Kirpalani holds a Ph.D. in Business (Marketing) from the City University of New York, where she was a doctoral fellowship recipient. She also received a Master of Science in Secondary Education (Business Education) and a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Hofstra University.
Dr. Kirpalani was inducted into the Delta Mu Delta honor society as a faculty member in 2014. She is the recipient of LIM College's 2012 Distinguished Teaching Award and was selected as one of three finalists for the Pride-Ferrell Cengage Innovations in Teaching Competition at the Society for Marketing Advances Conference in 2012.
Gayathri Banavara teaches Power of the Brand, Leadership & Negotiation, Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility and Project Management at the undergraduate level and Retail Merchandising, Planning, and Control at the graduate level.
Professor Banavara worked in a buying office in India for several years before moving to Canada. There she worked at Roots Canada and was involved in the development of official attire for the 2002 and 2004 U.S. Olympic teams. She later worked with Kahn Lucas Lancaster Inc., an importer of girls’ dresses in New York.
Her current research interests are in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices and ethics. She has been interviewed on those topics by WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) and Columbia University’s Uptown Radio.
Professor Banavara holds a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Mercy College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delhi (India).
Professor Robert Conrad has extensive professional experience in sales, marketing, operations, and general management within the fashion industry.
As Senior Vice President of Design and Product Development for Limited Brands, he helped develop Henri Bendel branded accessories, and as President of Modern & Classic Accessories for Liz Claiborne, he developed and implemented strategic plans for brands such as Liz Claiborne Accessories, Kenneth Cole Jewelry, and Lucky Brand. He has also held positions with R.G. Barry (Dearfoam), Swank Inc., Crystal Brands (Monet), Revlon, and J.C. Penney.
At the undergraduate level he teaches Management, Sales Management, Retailing, and Multi-Channel Retailing. He also teaches graduate courses in Fashion Retail Management.
Professor Conrad holds a Master of Business Administration degree from St. Peter’s University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Villanova University. He is a member of the Retail Marketing Society.
Gavin Goldstein teaches Business Law, Licensing, Leadership and Negotiation, as well as First Year Experience.
In addition to teaching, he operates a legal practice focusing on property and business law. He has written Continuing Legal Education and Continuing Professional Education tutorials for Lawline.com and has presented on the topic of legal issues for startup businesses at Brooklyn Law School’s Center for Urban Business Entrepreneurship.
Professor Goldstein received a Juris Doctorate degree from Brooklyn Law School and a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree from Syracuse University.
Dr. Kenneth M. Kambara
A social media and marketing research consultant, Dr. Kambara’s areas of interest include brand management, entrepreneurship, and social media.
Among the undergraduate courses he teaches are Applied Marketing Research, Consumer Behavior, Entrepreneurship, and Global Markets. He also teaches Technology and Fashion Merchandising and Management, Digital Merchandising, and Consumer Behavior in Fashion at the graduate level.
Dr. Kambara has presented at the American Sociology Association (in the Communications, Information Technology, and Media Sociology (CITAMS) and Economic Sociology sections), as well at American Marketing Association and Association for Consumer Research conferences. His work has been published in the Journal of Brand Management and The Journal of Academic and Business Ethics, and Critical Studies in Men’s Fashion. Dr. Kambara has also presented at LIM’s Fashion: Now & Then conference on projects related to the intersection of fashion, marketing, technology, and culture.
Dr. Kambara holds a Ph.D. in Management from The Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California at Irvine and a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon’s Lundquist College of Business. He also received two bachelor’s degrees — one in Business Administration-Marketing and one in Economics — from California State University, Long Beach.
Dr. Rudolph Lalak
Prior to joining LIM College Dr. Rudolph Lalak had a 25-year career with JP Morgan Chase & Co., spending the last 10 of those years in a senior officer position at the firm as Financial Director.
At the undergraduate level Dr. Lalak teaches the Accounting and Finance courses, and he has taught Accounting for Managers, Financial Management, and Entrepreneurial Finance on the graduate level. His academic research currently focuses on corporate taxation, earnings management, and corporate financial risk-taking.
The recipient of LIM College’s 2008 Distinguished Teaching Award, Dr. Lalak is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and Certified Financial Manager (CFM). He is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Taxation Association, the Financial Management Association International, and the Institute of Management Accountants. He has also been inducted into the Beta Alpha Psi Financial Information Honorary Organization and Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for Business, Management and Administration.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Accounting and Finance from Trident University International, a Master of Business Administration degree in Economics from Iona College, an Advanced Professional Certificate in Taxation from New York University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Fordham University.
Dr. Eve Proper
Dr. Eve Proper currently teaches the Management, Managerial Decision Making, and Leadership & Negotiation courses.
Organization theory and governance and fundraising are Dr. Proper’s primary areas of expertise. She is the co-author of Professors Behaving Badly: Faculty Misconduct in Graduate Teaching (Johns Hopkins Press, 2011), and of Institutional Advancement: What We Know (Palgrave, 2014). Her work has also been published in the International Journal of Educational Advancement, the Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management, and the Peabody Journal of Education.
A member of the Academy of Management and the Association for the Study of Higher Education, Dr. Proper earned a Ph.D. in Leadership and Policy Studies at Vanderbilt University. She also holds both a Master of Arts degree in Philanthropic Studies and a Master of Public Affairs degree in Nonprofit Management from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and in History and Philosophy of Science and Technology from Case Western Reserve University.
Kenneth Weinstein teaches Integrated Marketing Communications, E-Commerce, Management, Strategic Management, and International Business.
His career includes more than 30 years of marketing, merchandising and management experience as a marketing leader with Honeywell International. Professor Weinstein managed the strategic development of marketing, sales, communications and educational programs to drive sales and cultivate customer loyalty. One of his major roles at Honeywell was to help their channel partners grow their businesses by teaching them about, and helping them implement, the latest marketing and sales techniques. As part of his responsibility for new product introductions, Professor Weinstein received Six Sigma Greenbelt certification. He was named to the Honeywell President’s Club in 2009.
Professor Weinstein holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Finance from Hofstra University, and a Master of Arts degree in Education and Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Education from The City University of New York, Lehman College.
