General Notice

LIM College will be closed March 16-20 for Spring Break. Classes and operations will resume remotely on March 23.

LIM College offers selected courses each semester in a distance learning format. In this format, instead of attending class meetings on campus either for an entire course or part of a course, students attend virtual classrooms via the Internet. Blackboard Learning System, the primary means of conducting distance learning at LIM College, allows the instructor to post course content, assignments, syllabi and course outlines online.

Blackboard allows the use of several communication tools:

  • Discussion boards
  • Journals
  • Blogs
  • Wikis
  • Chat rooms
  • Email

Learning materials vary from class to class, but may include:

  • Textbooks
  • Video
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Interactive lessons
  • Web resources

Learning activities may include:

  • Writing and posting papers
  • Submitting journal entries
  • Posting comments or essays to online discussion forums
  • Completing individual or group projects
  • Taking quizzes

Distance Learning Classes

  • Are academically equivalent to traditional face-to-face courses and satisfy the same requirements towards your degree.
  • Allow you to fit school, work and your personal life into your schedule.
  • Offer the flexibility to choose where and when you complete your lessons.
What is a fully online course?

Online courses are conducted over the Internet using Blackboard and typically do not have regular meetings in a physical space.  Online courses offer ultimate flexibility. While students can choose when and where they work, there are usually deadlines for assignments, homework and exams.

What is a hybrid (or blended) course?

Hybrid courses are a carefully planned blend of traditional face-to-face instruction and online instruction often following a pattern of 1 in-class session followed by the next class delivered on line.  Hybrid courses combine the best of both styles of instruction. Hybrid courses give you more flexibility in learning, regular participation in both parts of the class is essential for success.

Traditional face-to-face courses

Instructors teaching traditional face-to-face classes often supplement their courses with many of the same features used in online and hybrid courses.
